Lifestyle GP with a focus on mental & physical wellbeing
Empowering people to live their best life
My approach
My name is Dr Theresa Stockwell and I’m a specialist GP with a special interest in Lifestyle Medicine, Psychological Medicine, and Sexual and Reproductive Health.
I use a comprehensive, whole-patient approach to managing chronic disease and complex health issues such as weight loss, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, insomnia, substance use, menopause, endometriosis, sexual dysfunction and mental health just to name a few.
I combine my traditional medical training with evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine to help patients keen to initiate and sustain new healthy lifestyle behaviours to prevent and manage their chronic diseases. I can provide treatment for poor sleep without medication as a certified CBT for Insomnia practitioner.
In addition, I have training in Psychological Medicine and can provide compassionate counselling and therapy particularly for women dealing with reproductive issues such as infertility, pregnancy loss, unplanned pregnancy or perinatal anxiety or depression.
Together, we can work towards achieving your health goals. I look forward to helping you on your personalised journey to better health.

What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based medical specialty which has a much broader perspective to treating health conditions beyond prescribing medications and performing surgery. It’s rapidly gaining recognition for its effectiveness in helping people live happier, healthier and longer lives by addressing the lifestyle factors leading to the rising rates of chronic disease. Did you know 80% of all chronic diseases being treated in our Australian health system could be prevented with changes to lifestyle?
Lifestyle Medicine is a holistic medical approach and includes the science of behaviour change to help patients prevent chronic diseases from developing. If a chronic disease is present, symptoms can be improved, complications reduced or prevented, and in many cases the disease itself can be reversed. Lifestyle factors addressed with evidence-based interventions include: stress management, diet and nutrition, physical activity, sleep, quality of relationships and social connections, mental and sexual wellbeing, addressing substance use such as smoking and drinking alcohol, the safe de-prescribing of medications and considers how our external environments can have an effect on our health including our workplaces, time in nature and screen use.
