About

My name is Dr Theresa Stockwell FRACGP MBBS BEd DCH. I’m a Lifestyle GP who has a focus on mental and physical wellbeing. I use evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine and Psychological Medicine to empower people to manage and improve their own health.

I have been practising medicine as a GP using a holistic lifestyle approach for many years, and have personally witnessed the change many patients have made to their quality of life by addressing their lifestyles. The majority of people want to prioritise their health but are often overwhelmed with life demands or are not sure where to start. I aim to help by providing a safe space where health concerns can be openly discussed, options for improving health can be explored, and changes to health behaviours can be experimented and supported. I can help patients initiate and sustain healthier behaviours using a range of evidence-based strategies including health education and coaching, Motivational Interviewing, and cognitive and behavioural strategies such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy.

My service is called Create Mind-Body Health because our minds and bodies are an integrated system contributing to our sense of overall well-being. I am passionate about promoting proactive mental wellbeing and de-stigmatising talking about and seeking help for mental health concerns and navigating difficult life events. I have a compassionate, inclusive, trauma-informed approach and can provide counselling and cognitive behaviour therapies to help patients improve their overall well-being.

When I’m not working as a GP, I love to draw and paint. I enjoy cooking nutritious meals and keeping active as much as I can. I go to a boxing and strength gym that’s a lot of fun and a great place for social connection. I do yoga and love to hike in the many beautiful tracks around the Illawarra. You’ll find me at the North Gong Parkrun on Saturday mornings. Come join us!
