Due to the broad scope of general practice, not all GPs have the same interests, experience and skills in all areas. I have additional training and experience in lifestyle medicine, psychological medicine/mental health, sexual health, women’s health, perinatal care and child health as well as health education, health coaching, counselling and some psychological therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy. This skill set is well suited for helping address chronic health issues affecting your physical and mental health and helping with health behaviour change.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who solely treat serious mental health conditions and require a referral from a GP.
Psychologists are health professionals who study the science of the mind and human behaviour to help people make change and reduce mental distress through talking therapy. As they are not medical practitioners, they do not prescribe medications or treat physical health concerns.
As a GP, you can book an appointment without a referral. I’m a medical doctor who has additional training in mental health, counselling and psychological strategies. This gives me a unique whole-person understanding of your mental health concerns.
For significant complex mental health concerns which I am not experienced treating, I will consult with or refer to psychiatrists or clinical psychologists for their expertise, as necessary.
